Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the students’ skill and the most dominant aspects in writing a recount text on second grade at SMK Raja Haji Tanjungpinang. The researcher uses quantitative method to analyze the data with the total of 19 students as the population. To get the data for this research, the researcher used writing test of recount text as the research instruments. The result of this research showed that the students’ writing skill in SMK Raja Haji Tanjungpinang have the four categories achievement which are 2 students in excellent category, 10 students in good category, 6 students in enough category and 1 student in poor category achievement, but the researcher found some problems in developing a paragraph, make a sentences with wrong vocabularies and spelling, and using the tenses. Most dominants aspects from students excellent achievement category until enough achievement category made in writing recount text is content orientation, because almost of them show the complete parts of content orientation namely: people involved, the time, the places and the situation.
