Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze students’ speaking skills at the eight grade students in one of Public Junior High School in the academic year 2018/2019. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. Student speaking video recordings are used as data collection instruments. The subjects of this study were the eighth grade in one of Public Junior High School in Tanjungpinang. The results of this study is the categories of students' speaking skills in each aspect. To get the categories of students 'speaking skill, the writer uses the rubric adapted from Brown and calculates the average score of students based on the formula adapted from Best and Kahn, then classifies the category of students' speaking skill based on tables from Vagias and Wade. For speaking skills in grammar aspect, vocabulary, and comprehension, the eighth grade A students have fair categories. Meanwhile, for students' speaking skills in fluency aspect, students speaking skill in the eighth grade A are categorized as poor. Overall, the average score of students’ speaking skills at the eighth grade students is 2.09 and categorized fair. Key Words: Speaking, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency.
