Abstract
Based on the preliminary study, the students of the third-year of SMP Katolik Tanjungpinang were able to identify passive voice in reading text, even though they have studied passive voice. The purpose of the research were: (1) To find out the students’ ability in identifying passive voice in reading text. The subject of the study was the third year students of SMP Katolik Tanjungpinang and the object of this research was the students’ ability in identifying passive voice in reading text. The population of the research was one of the third year of IX C class students of SMP Katolik Tanjungpinang, the total number of the population was 30. So, the sample of the research was the third year of SMP Katolik Tanjungpinang. In order to collect the data of this research, the researcher used a test. The test was used to find the students’ ability in identifying passive voice in reading text. Based on the recapitulation on the test result and the data analyzed, it was found that the students’ ability in identifying passive voice in reading text was classified into good category 65 (61-80). It can be proved that out of 30 students who took the test, there were 9 of 30 students (30%) were in good level, 12 of 30 students (40%) were in enough level, 9 of 30 students (30%) were in poor level.
