Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know kinds of pronouns error did by the 10th grade students of MAN Tanjungpinang used in Academic Year of 2018/2019. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The subject was X IPA 2 that consists of 23 students. The students were asked to complete the questions with the appropriate personal and possessive pronouns. To analyzed the data, the data classified based on the Surface Strategy Taxonomy focused on omission, addition, and misformation. This research shows that the students did errors of omission, addition, and misformation in using pronouns especially personal and possessive pronouns. They did errors of omission in possessive pronoun form; did errors of addition in subjective pronoun and possessive adjective form; and also did errors of misformation in subjective pronoun, objective pronoun, possessive adjective, and possessive pronoun form. The errors of omission existed when the students omitted suffix “-s” in possessive pronoun form. Meanwhile, the errors of addition existed when the students added suffix “-s” in subjective pronoun and possessive adjective form. Then, the errors of misformation existed when the students used incorrect form in subjective pronoun, objective pronoun, possessive adjective, and possessive pronoun form.
