Abstract

This research aimed to know the effect of J-Cloze on students’ ability to master Simple Past Verbs. This research was quasi experimental research with the design was pretest posttest control group design. The population of the research was all the students at the tenth grade of SMK Pembangunan Tanjungpinang and sample was the students of X Accounting 1 as the experimental class and X Accounting 2 as the control class. The sample was taken by a group randomly by using Cluster Random Sampling. The experimental class was taught by using J-Cloze and the control class was taught by using Visual Slideshow Powerpoint. The research instrument was tests i.e. pretest and posttest. The data was analyzed by using paired t-test by using Minitab17 for windows. The result of this research showed that the average of experimental class in posttest was 64.8 and the pretest was 48.42. The average of control class in posttest was 59.76 and the pretest 44.44. The students’ mean scores of the experimental class was higher than the control class. In paired t-test, the researcher got the significance value 0.000 was lower than that significance level 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05), the t-value 5.66 was higher than that t-table with in df = 48 was 2.010 (5.66 > 2.010). Based on the result of the analysis, it was concluded that J-Cloze was effective on students’ ability to master Simple Past Verb.
