Abstract

Levana Hartono, Yoke. 2017. Code-Switching and Code-Mixing between English and Indonesian Language in "Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika" Movie. Tanjungpinang: University of Maritim Raja Ali Haji. This research is a qualitative research. This study discusses the transition of the so-called code-switching and code-mixing language contained in the Indonesian movie, "Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika". This study analyzes the types and reasons for code-switching and code-mixing that underlying behind the characters (speakers) in using language transitions. The theory used in this paper is the theory of Poplack (1978/1981) for the analysis of code-switching types, the theory of Suwito (1983) for the analysis of code-mixing types and Hoffman (1991) theory for the analysis of the reasons for the occurrence of code-switching and code-mixing. While the transition of code-switching and code-mixing become the focus of writing is the code-switching and code-mixing from Indonesian to English and vice versa. There are forty-two data to analyze, from the data there are three types of code-switching, namely tag-switching type, inter-sentential switching and intra-sentential switching. Inter-sentential switching types are the most common type of code transfer, followed by tag-switching and intra-sentential switching types. There are six types of code-mixing, there are word insertion, hybrid, word reduplication, idiom, and clause. Then, six reasons are found that lead to code-switching and code-mixing.
