Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to investigate the use of code switching by English teacher in classroom at SMA Negeri 6 Tanjungpinang. There are two problems in this study. Those are the types of code switching and the reasons for the use of code switching by the teachers. This research was conducted through English teachers. In order to get the data, the researcher used two instruments of research, they are: observation and interview. The types of code-switching appeared in the classroom were observed based on the theory proposed by Poplack and result of reason based on the interview. The result of this study are three type of code switching. They were intersentential switching, intrasentential switching and tag switching. The result of reason for the student understand, understand the new word, explaining the material and get the feedback. Keywords: Code switching, English teachers, in classroom
